Originating from the work of Franklyn Stills DO and following in the lineage of Sutherland's cranial osteopathy, this subtle touch treatment follows the Cranial wave and tidal rhythms of the bodies inner sea to release tensions in the head, neck, back and throughout the whole body. It allows for overall balance and deep relaxation of the nervous system.
It is excellent with working with a wide range of issues including pain, stress, chronic issues that have not been resolved by other methods. It is done clothed, using light gentle touch. The practitioner’s role is to remain centred and while sensing and “listening” to the client’s craniosacral pulse and tidal rhythm while holding space for those rhythms to move into a deep sense of inner stillness and balance.
Rather then attempt to “fix” problems, craniosacral especially when practiced in a biodynamic perspective, allows space for issues to simply be and have room to reorganize and shift naturally. Although a subtle treatment, craniosacral therapy can facilitate deep release on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

Massage Therapy

Drawing from deep tissue and sports massage this treatment is aimed at addressing the structural imbalances of the body, injuries, long held chronic conditions and emotional attachment while creating a deep sense of relaxation, balance and well being.

Founded in 1874 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still DO, this approach rests on philosophical foundations based on rules of nature. Mostly, the idea is that life exists thanks to the harmony which is inherent its existence. Thus, osteopathy seeks to promote the harmony which already exists within each person by removing obstacles to this state of harmony. The techniques used may vary from joint mobilization, to visceral manipulation, myofascial release, cranial osteopathy or even fluid and vibrational body balancing. It is understood that emotional, mental or spiritual states of dis-ease may also cause disharmony. The idea is to align the body, the person, with the original intended state of balance and harmony with which it was created.

As it is taught at the Canadian School of Osteopathy in Vancouver, osteopathy follows in the tradition of Andrew Taylor Still and William Garner Sutherland, the founder of the cranial branch of osteopathy. The founder of our Canadian Colleges, Philippe Druelle DO (France) learned under some of Sutherland's students, most notably Dr. Viola Frymann DO. We believe that the purity of the lineage is important, as it ensures the osteopathy we practice is pure and as close as possible to what was originally by its founder Dr. Still. While the techniques used by osteopathic practitioners may differ, the philosophy must remain the same, as it rests on immutable laws of nature. Life comes from harmony.

Athletic therapy aims at preventing injury and helping people return to their activity level (work and/or play) post-injury. Patient education is also an important component of athletic therapy. Learning proper posture and proper movement will prevent injuries and help you return to your normal if you have been injured.

Definition of modality: If you are new to acupuncture, the approach consists of a few small and thin needles which are placed in specific spots known as acupuncture points. Each visit points are chosen for you to help you with your current complaints and health concerns, whether they are physical or emotional, acute or chronic internal or external. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers your whole health in order to address the root cause to your condition, and while each acupuncture point has been determined to affect the body in its own unique way, there is a wide variety of ways in which help: to calm, to build, to move out pain and improve your wellbeing, just as some examples.

Other than working with acupuncture needles, there are other tools that may be used in a session such as acupressure (using the same acupuncture points but without needles), cupping, heat therapy lamp, mild forms of electrical stimulation for the needles, ear acupuncture, Gua Sha (to help open up the fascia), and nutritional advice based upon TCM.

Olya was raised in a family of Physicists and had never considered becoming an acupuncturist. She received a Master’s Degree in Business and enjoyed a successful career for almost 20 years. After giving birth to her second son, she fell seriously ill.  Luckily, a seven-year struggle with constant severe pain was finished when Olya found acupuncture. It was the only treatment that was effective for her.

Olya was so encouraged by this positive change that she decided to shift her career and bring back to the community this healing power of Chinese Medicine. Once she was on this new path, she was able to quickly apply important skillsets from her previous career, such as finding the root causes of problems and effective self-study to investigate new ways to help patients. Olya treats every patient as a unique individual and tailors each treatment plan very carefully. She applies different approaches based on the patient’s needs, some might benefit from orthopaedic acupuncture, and others need Tan’s balance method, scalp acupuncture, or auricular therapy. Her special areas of research include pain control, digestive issues, women’s health, and emotional trauma support.

Olya has a sincere desire to take care of everyone who needs it with the help of acupuncture. Her belief is that regular acupuncture treatment, and small changes in diet, lifestyle, and exercise can trigger huge positive changes in the body at any age.

I combine my training in osteopathy and athletic therapy to provide an integrated approach to treatment. With an open heart, I use mostly a manual approach to treatment – meaning I use my hands to realign your body according to the principles of osteopathy. This may include joint mobilization, visceral manipulation, cranial osteopathy or myofascial release.

With the intention of providing long term health and wellness I usually send people home with homework to do. Your homework may include: exercises, relaxation routines, awareness practices such as meditation or postural correction, as well as consulting with other practitioners to address mental health, nutritional issues, etc.

Tides of the ocean are ever changing and so are our life patterns. These patterns or “transitions” can be challenging times but the may also hold the key to invaluable and rewarding sources of insight and healing. These life patterns include birth, spiritual journeys, healing from injury or illness, trauma, becoming a parent, loss of a loved on, aging, and the end of life.

Over the past 18 years, I have been a support to many people navigating life’s tides from birth until death. I’ve done this through being a Nurse, Registered Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and Massage Specialist. I’m so grateful for my experiences and how they have shaped and formed my journey. Currently, along side my practice, I have been a Resident Care Manager for Trillium Clover Point Care for the last 7 years providing elderly care and Craniosacral therapy until the end of life.
